 In early 1992, YB Dato Sri Hj Abd Rahman Zohari Tun Openg, the minister of   Tourism, Sarawak mooted the idea to set up a professional training body to locally to undertake the development of human resources in the state.

 Several dedicated professionals responded to this call promptly. Through the invaluable guidance of YBhg  Datuk Abang Hj Abd Karim Tun Abg Hj Openg, A Protem Committee was set up under the chairmanship of Datuk Dr. Joseph Ko Tee Hock to form the INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT SARAWAK (MASA).

 Several dedicated professionals responded to this call promptly.

 To further enhance the role of the proposed Institute, the protem committee started consultations with faculty members of the Singapore Nanyang  Technological University; other management  institutions in and outside Malaysia also expressed enthusiastic support and cooperation for a working relationship with MASA.

 After much effort, MASA’s registration was finally approved by the Registrar of Societies on 12th August 1993.
