In
early 1992, YB Dato Sri Hj Abd Rahman Zohari Tun Openg, the minister of
Tourism,
Sarawak mooted the idea to set up a professional training body to locally
to undertake the development of human resources in the state.
Several
dedicated professionals responded to this call promptly. Through the
invaluable guidance of YBhg Datuk
Abang Hj Abd Karim Tun Abg Hj Openg, A Protem Committee was set up under
the chairmanship of Datuk Dr. Joseph Ko Tee Hock to form the INSTITUTE
OF MANAGEMENT SARAWAK (MASA).
Several
dedicated professionals responded to this call promptly.
To
further enhance the role of the proposed Institute, the protem committee
started consultations with faculty members of the Singapore Nanyang
Technological University; other management institutions in and outside Malaysia also expressed
enthusiastic support and cooperation for a working relationship with MASA.
After
much effort, MASA’s registration was finally approved by the Registrar
of Societies on 12th August 1993.
